LandThink Pulse: Gold Lacks Luster Compared to Land | LandThink

Last month, we posed the following question to our audience: Would you rather own an ounce of gold or an acre of land? LandThink.com, an authoritative online resource for advice, knowledge, opinions and trends related to land, can finally announce the results or our interesting and out of the ordinary question. An overwhelming, 89.6% of respondents said that they would rather own an acre of land than an ounce of gold. There are strong arguments to support the fact that both land and gold are solid investments, but the advantages that come along with land ownership incontestably outshines gold. Investors are choosing to purchase land over gold because land has something gold doesn?t- utility. As LandThink Contributor Jonathan Goode pointed out in his article, An Ounce of Gold or an Acre of Land?, land owners can grow crops for food or income, raise cattle and farm animals, build a home, grow timber, and enjoy the recreation opportunities it allows. Additionally, there are tax benefits to land as opposed to gold; land is taxed at capital gains rates and gold as a collectible. Also, land can be purchased with a self-directed IRA, but it?s recommended that land buyers always?seek the advice of a tax/legal professional if planning to do so.

LandThink subscribers, fans, followers and land industry professionals across the country voiced their opinion on which they would rather own an ounce of, gold or land. Here are the final results:

LandThink Pulse: Gold Lacks Luster Compared to Land
